Global To Local Issues For Disabled Persons
As part of the campaign to raise awareness about access and other issues that can make the difference about whether those with disabilities feel like a valued part of our communities or are relegated to the diminished expectations of the uninformed, Laura and Wagner are planning to contribute to a television documentary that will bring a global perspective to these very local, and yet, universal issues.
Whether it's learning first-hand from Ping Yali about her challenges with the first guide dog in Beijing, talking to the principals in a court case about a Muslim cab driver who was fined for refusing a passenger with a guide dog in Canada, or learning about echolocation as a new mobility technique in the United States, the program will examine how all of these cases and issues can provide learning opportunities for disabled people and legislators in Curaçao and the Netherlands Antilles.
Executive Produced and Directed by EMMY and Peabody Award-winning former CNN Anchor/Producer and documentary journalist Linden Soles, 'Opening Eyes & Opening Doors' will capture the challenges of breaking the still entrenched stereotypes many people have about those who can't see as well, hear as well or walk as well as the rest of us.
