Auction Night Fundraiser for Curaçao Charities

On the evening of June 6, 2009, the generosity of sponsors and patrons alike came together under the kind of star lit skies Curaçao is famous for at the annual fundraiser at Freddy Berends' chic Bistro Le Clochard restaurant at the historic Rif Fort. This year the event came together under the new banner of the Children Welfare Foundation formed just a month before the event by Freddy, his son Ghislain, and Jacques Visser (who flew in from Malta for the event).

Donated auction items ranging from a year of Heineken beer, to airfare and tickets to see Andre Rieu in Maastricht or a pair of tickets to France which included an exclusive tour of famous champagner house Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin & Krug in Reims, brought in close to 200 thousand NAfl for local charities.

The Board of Directors of the Laura And Wagner Foundation is grateful to Freddy, Ghislain and Jacques, the sponsors and all the volunteers who made the evening possible, for their 10,000 NAfl donation which helps lay the groundwork for our ABLED initiative that will provide new opportunities for learning, training and employment for disabled and disadvantaged children, teens and adults in Curaçao via an innovative suite of software and digital devices that make it easier for them to use computers and other assistive technology. LWF Founder and Vice-Chairman, Laura de Haseth Meddens also wishes to thank Laurens Jacobs of Omundo Restaurant for the introduction to the Children Welfare Foundation.
